On a partially related note, I love Redline but Trava & the Fist Planet is a better film (by the same writer/director) in my opinion due to the back and forth conversations that take up the majority of the movie. If the flash action of Redline was not for you, Trava is more of a Seinfeld or Tarantino dialogue driven piece.
I wouldn't know, i haven't seen Initial D, but i imagine that there's more depth and a larger cast. Given that Redline is a movie there isn't time to introduce as many characters.
