Perhaps in line with that, it isn’t particularly funny either. It is however, full of biting, very angry satire. Zany hi-jinks never go out of fashion

    • The title characters are loosely based on the odious, chaos-making, highly obnoxious escapades of a couple of fictitious Arizona teenagers who regularly showed up in the pages of National Lampoon magazine.
    • It’s not really a satire of teen comedies, though that was what the studio wanted. “Altman argues that audiences and National Lampoon wanted Robert Altman’s ‘Porky’s’ and were flummoxed when he delivered a satire of teen schlock instead,” Nathan Rabin notes, writing about the film in the A.V.
    • For Altman completetists and fans of movie oddities, it’s worth a look. When I reached out to Chicago Film Society programmer Cameron Worden to talk about the upcoming screening, his reply made me laugh: “So happy to hear you’re interested in writing about this brilliant/terrible/flummoxing film.”
    • The movie traffics in misogyny and taunting homophobia. Writing for Reverse Shot, Matt Connolly points out that we, the viewer, “are expected to square our alignment with O.C.
