However that being said, the city is a university city. Loads of campus buildings around with a LOT of international students from every corner of the world. I feel like because of that the city is very welcoming and multicultural.
I was looking at either Leeds, Liverpool or Newcastle and the deciding factor for me was that Newcastle is such a great city. It has so much going on. Leeds has a better night life, but Newcastle for me was just all round great. I would highly suggest going to each of the cities.
