In this case, Nancy must help a very old, very sad man find missing sheet music that could make him rich, all while dealing with some romantic drama with Ned Nickerson.
For the yellow hardbacks, I would nominate The Hidden Staircase as the best. It keeps the plot fairly simple and cohesive, and does a great job with the spooky Gothic trappings that are part of the books' charm, without descending into ludicrousness like some of the other books (can we say Secret of Red Gate Farm).
