Nancy Drew is an extremely popular mystery series that was first published in the 1930’s. It centers around an eighteen year old detective and her friends who help her solve mysteries. Each book is a separate mystery, so you could start the series by reading book 50 and not have to worry about missing information.
There are a lot of positive elements in these stories, and the books are clean, which is nice. Nancy and her friends are respectful, kind, and clever. The bad guys are represented as bad guys, and usually end up going to prison. Police officers are treated with respect and usually work in partnership with Nancy Drew. Nancy and her Dad have a great ...
Even though each book is a different mystery, some of the characters, or what happens in the story seems similar. For example, as you continue to read the series there almost always seems to be a character who is unpleasant, the same people (Helen in the first several books and then Ned, Burt, Dave, George and Bess in the rest of them) always get i...
There really isn’t much. These books are clean. Each mystery is generally centered around a crime, such as stealing, kidnapping, a hostage situation, a family member mistreating their family, etc. Nancy drew sometimes makes unwise decisions in order to solve a mystery, and puts herself in danger. Characters experience life-threatening danger (bad g...
These books are great for girls to read. They’re fun, and the main characters have old fashioned manners, meaning they are nice and respectful. These books also hold a certain level of nostalgia for older readers!
What does Nancy do to solve mysteries? How do you think she finds these mysteries? What would you do if you were faced with solving a mystery? Have you ever solved a mystery? What are some things you notice about the time period Nancy Drew lives in that are different from now? There is a definite good side and evil side in this series. How does thi...
There aren’t individual book summaries for books 1-4. Starting with book 5, there is a summary within the first few pages of the book (except for book 6. There is a “series summary” on the back of each book, though. This is what it says*: “For cliff-hanging suspense and thrilling action read THE NANCY DREW MYSTERY STORIES® – the world’s most popula...
1 day ago · The book’s themes of perseverance, justice, and helping those in need transcend its historical context, making it both a valuable cultural artifact and an engaging read. It offers a unique window into the past, allowing readers to understand the values and attitudes of the time. For young mystery enthusiasts and budding detectives, The Secret ...
- The Ghost of Blackwood Hall (Book #25) The Ghost of Blackwood Hall has everything — séances, hoaxes, an abandoned mansion occupied by an organ-playing ghoul, scam artists, hypnotized girls who give their hard-earned money to a fake orphanage, a trip to New Orleans, abductions, quicksand!
- The Password to Larkspur Lane (Book #10) A strange carrier pigeon delivering an even stranger message ("Blue Bells now Singing Horses") kicks off The Password to Larkspur Lane, one of the all-time Nancy Drew greats.
- The Secret of Red Gate Farm (Book #6) Any book that features a cult instantly shoots up to the top of my list. In The Secret of Red Gate Farm, the cult in question wears white hooded robes (yikes) and calls itself the Black Snake Colony.
- The Secret in the Old Attic (Book #21) Everyone knows that the attic is the spookiest part of the house (basements are just terrifying). In this case, Nancy must help a very old, very sad man find missing sheet music that could make him rich, all while dealing with some romantic drama with Ned Nickerson.
- The Mystery at Lilac Inn – #4. The Mystery at Lilac Inn begins with Nancy and a friend toppling into the river while canoeing to the Lilac Inn, set to open in a few months.
- The Mystery of the Ivory Charm – #13. Keeping in mind these books were written in the 1930s, one must suspend their modern-day perspective of cultural sensitivity when reading this series.
- The Clue in the Jewel Box – #20. Lastly, The Clue in the Jewel Box continued to highlight Drew’s uncanny ability to correctly judge a person’s character after just having met them, while also focusing on her never-ending search for puzzles and problems to solve.
Oct 11, 2006 · 4.24. 19,506 ratings507 reviews. Nancy Drew has been solving mysteries, and delighting fans, for over 75 years. Now, for the first time, you can purchase all sixty-four classic Nancy Drew titles in one complete set! #1: The Secret of the Old Clock. #2: The Hidden Staircase.
Series like the Nancy Drew books are great, because they all begin exactly the same, and skimming through that familiar formula makes the kid feel smart, safe, on top of things, and eager to push forward through a plot which seems both highly suspenseful and completely predictable.
