Highlights of Monogatari: Animation/design is usually pretty good. Most of the characters are likeable and have good character focus/development. Witty/fun dialogue. Storylines don't tend to go more than 4 -5 episodes tops so if you don't like one in particular, the focus will change relatively soon.
Monogatari is a character-driven story about Araragi Koyomi, an ex-vampire who encounters several people afflicted by supernatural problems. These problems come from Oddities -- spirits based on the Shinto religion -- and Araragi tries to help others solve them.
It's not the point of the series, and the story and characters are strong enough that it tips the scale completely in favor for the storytelling. Sure, there are bath scenes and the MC likes lolis. It's not played basic like run-of-the-mill ecchi anime, though.
