- Explore the Grote Markt and enjoy morning light on the Leuven Town Hall. Start your day at the Grote Markt, the main square that serves as the heart of Leuven.
- Visit St. Peter’s Church and its famous artworks. Take a walk around St Peter’s Church, a 15th-century church showcasing a magnificent example of Brabantine Gothic architecture along with the renowned “Last Supper” painting by Dirk Bouts.
- Visit the University Library in Leuven & Climb the Famous KU Leuven Bell Tower. Next, take a short walk to the University Library, not just an academic cornerstone and the most important of the university buildings, but also a symbol of resilience for the city of Leuven and it’s world class univeristy.
- Visit Old Market Square (Oude Markt) in Leuven. Often referred to as the “longest bar in the world,” the Oude Markt in Leuven is filled with numerous cafés and bars, each with its own unique ambiance.

- ADMIRE THE LAST SUPPER IN ST. PETER’S CHURCH. Facing Leuven’s Stadhuis across Grote Markt is Sint-Pieterskerk (St. Peter’s Church). This asymmetric, hulking late Gothic pile isn’t much to look at from the outside.
- VISIT LEUVEN’S UNIVERSITY LIBRARY. To say that Leuven University Library has been unlucky is an understatement. Established shortly after the founding of the university in 1425, it lost its rare books and manuscripts to France after the French Revolution at the end of the 18 Century.
- How to get to Leuven. By train. The easiest way to get to Leuven from elsewhere in Belgium or even abroad is by train. There are direct and connecting trains from most Belgian cities, as well as from Brussels National Airport.
- How to get around Leuven. Leuven is a rather small city and especially the center can easily be done on foot. You'll see a lot of bikes here as well. (Foreign) students can rent a bike long-term at a cheap price through Velo, while others can go to Fietspunt (affiliated with Velo) or Blue-bike.
- Where to stay: hotels in Leuven and more. Like most cities, Leuven has ample accommodation options. You can check Airbnb to find a nice apartment in the center, opt for something more budget with a hostel or go for a more service-oriented option with a B&B or hotel in Leuven.
- Food and drinks. Although I love to eat and drink – I'm Belgian, after all – I actually haven't written about many restaurants in Leuven yet. That's partly because I'm rather frugal and don't eat out much when I'm at home.
