Nov 11, 2019 · Lancaster Castle has re-opened to the public - with a remodelled “sweeping piazza” and brand new cafe. After extensive conservation and restoration works to the lower courtyard and historic castle buildings over the last year, the John O’Gaunt gate re-opened on Saturday November 9.
The courtroom is still in use today. Shire Hall Joseph Gandy's masterpiece, this magnificent ten-sided room, showcases a semi-circle of Gothic pillars that support the arches over the main part of the court and the arches of the plaster vault over the surrounding aisle.
