Lancaster Castle. Arguably Lancashire's most famous castle. Overlooking the city of Lancaster, this medieval castle is believed to have been founded in the 11th century on the site of a Roman fort overlooking a crossing of the River Lune.
Sep 5, 2024 · This Illinois visitor center is located at 950 N. 27th Road, in Ottawa, and just across the river from Starved Rock State Park. Its simple brick design - which is vaguely reminiscent of Prairie Style architecture - offers incredible views of nature and access to the world of water transportation.
The castle is now open to the public seven days a week and is undergoing a large-scale refurbishment. There is a large sweeping public piazza, allowing access to the cloistered area, renovated in 2019.

Why should you visit Lancaster Castle?
The name Lancaster refers to a Roman fort which stood by The River Lune and was once where Lancaster Castle now is. Walking up from The Millennium Bridge towards the castle there’s evidence of this in the remains of a bathhouse on the left. I thought it would be interesting to chart the journey the river makes from source to mouth.
