Kingdom was falling apart before the Whisperers came about. They were barely holding on. In episode 9.16 (the episode after the pikes), it's revealed that they had to shut it down for good, and then the Kingdom residents moved mostly into Hilltop.
Yeah that's what I thought but shockingly it's correct, it's roughly 7,788 minutes or 129 hours, since there are 177 episodes in total and each episode is roughly 45 minutes (excluding a few episodes which are an hour long)

Nothing is known about the Kingdom before the apocalypse. Given the appearance, security, and the "Post Theater" - the Kingdom was likely a military fort. Part of the fort contained a theater, school, and garden built for common recreation and study, according to Ezekiel.
