The main thing both first fights have in common between the two movies is that Kong gets absolutely wrecked. In the new movie, Kong is drugged and taken away on a ship, something that also happens to him in the Toho original (and the original, original from 1933 for that matter). But this time, Godzilla comes for him and goes for an immediate throw...

Taking a break from the fisticuffs, both incarnations of Godzilla continue to just wreck shit. Good for them. The two versions of Kong go on their own diverging adventures, however. The 1962 Kong kidnaps another woman and climbs up a tower, only to get captured again again. Consider it a slightly more humanitarian version of the 1933 movie’s ending...

Give credit to the folks from the original, they are actually able to set up the kaiju brawl in an area that is relatively lacking in human casualties. • Godzilla (2014) The original Gareth Edwards that kicked off the Monsterverse shows how the creature was roused and unleashed on the world, and sets up the mysteries of Monarch too.
    • Kong: Skull Island (2017) Kong: Skull Island takes us back to the 1970s, but it's less "groovy" and more "grave-y". It follows an all-star cast including Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman and John C. Reilly as a US Army Unit that's recruited to search a recently-discovered island for primeval creatures.
    • Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) The one Monsterverse movie that critics weren't impressed by, Godzilla: King of the Monsters follows as a team of eco-terrorists begins to free a load of monsters that have been held captive by Monarch.
    • Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) Godzilla's quest to wipe out all rival monsters brings him to King Kong, whom humanity has been hiding on Skull Island since the 1970s.
  2. Key Facts. Godzilla vs. Kong will premiere in select theaters, IMAX, and HBO Max on March 26, 2021. Unknown at this time whether the stars of either Godzilla: King of the Monsters or Skull Island will be reprising their roles in Godzilla vs. Kong (Hollywood Reporter, 5/30/17).
