I've used GameMaker, Unity, & Unreal Engine on paid projects so hopefully my insight is helpful! GameMaker is good for learning general basic concepts, but it's a bit of a mixed bag when things get more complex. Logic in GameMaker is tied to the games frame rate which is a big "no no" in game dev.
I see ROBLOX as more of a beginner's game engine - great for starting out and then you can take off to making more advanced games from there. (For example, "Unturned" on steam was made by a former ROBLOX developer.)
I want to learn an actual game engine, but can't really decide. I was thinking of either Unity or Game Maker, as I am nowhere skilled enough for C++ yet. If there are any other game engines you would recommend, please let me know!
Jul 11, 2022 · Definitely possible. If the engine isn’t written in lua, you would have to convert/rewrite the code to lua, which then can be ported to roblox. I would also like to point out it is even possible port entire graphic engines to roblox.
