Sep 3, 2020 · For the most part, season 3 of Game of Thrones adhered to the third book in George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, A Storm of Swords. The HBO show included many momentous scenes that altered the course of events: the fall of the Starks, the rise of Daenerys Targaryen, and a cold clash with the White Walkers beyond the Wall.
The books are much much much much much better than the show. Although the show had it's moments, namely 1st and third season. The first three books are absolutely excellent, and the second and third book have tons more content that isn't in the show.
The first four seasons are based on the first three books. The fifth season is supposedly based on the last two books, but they adapted like 40% of it. A Game of Thrones (book 1) is pretty much the same as season 1, season 2 and book 2 have some minor differences.
