Earlier this year, we said goodbye (again) to one of the most beloved animated TV shows ever, Futurama. Now, just in time for Christmas, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment are releasing Futurama: The Complete Series on DVD, collecting all 124 episodes, as well as the show's four feature-length adventures bridging the FOX and Comedy Central runs: Bender's Big Score, The Beast with a Billion Backs, Bender's Game and Into the Wild Green Yonder. Indeed, for Futurama fans, this is the definitive DVD collection we've all been waiting for. As it says right on the back of the box, "It doesn't get any completer than this, folks!"

Of course, the major complaint some collectors will have is that the episodes are all formatted in standard definition, which is kind of a bummer considering Volumes 5-8 and two of the Futurama movies are available in HD on Blu-ray already. It would have been nice if at least these episodes/films were in high-def. Moreover, it should be noted that Volumes 1-4 retain a 4:3 format, as opposed to a 16:9 format in Volumes 5-8. In other words, no pan-and-scanning was attempted for the earlier seasons; so starting with Volume 5, there's a switch in the episodes' native aspect ratio from full screen to widescreen, but that's simply due to how the episodes were produced.

Watch in the production order, not the airdate order - there are several storylines where this actually does matter. It's also nice to see the last episode be climactic, like you'd expect. Movies fit in as a new season 5. You really should watch them in order of production.
The breakdown is that you buy Volume 1, 2, 3, and 4 on DVD, as well as the movies Bender’s Big Score and The Beast with a Billion Backs . For Blu-Ray, you’ll want to get Bender’s Game, Into the Wild Green Yonder, and Volume 5, 6, 7, and 8. This all gets you the complete series in the highest quality available.
