Firefox is really a movie of thirds, like most films, but they are not quite equal and Firefox is quite uneven when watched today.
This is a good double-feature with The Hunt for Red October, which came out 8 years later in 1990. It's interesting to note that Red October was made for only $9 million more than Firefox but it absolutely leapfrogs it in terms of direction, pacing and effects.

The “Firefox” of the title is a top-secret Russian warplane capable of flying six times the speed of sound while remaining invisible on radar.
