    • Corktown. Detroit’s oldest neighborhood—Irish immigrants arrived during the mid- to late-1800s—is home to many of the city’s buzzy bars and restaurants, from Slows Bar BQ to Lady of the House, with no shortage of java (hello, Astro Coffee) and vinyl (Hello Records and Underground Vinyl).
    • Midtown. Shopping at Shinola’s flagship store (luxury watches, bicycles, and bags, all made in Detroit) and viewing Diego Rivera’s 27 “Detroit Industry” frescoes at the 658,000-square-foot Detroit Institute of Arts, plus checking out two other major museums—MOCAD (Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit) and Detroit Historical Museum—easily fills a day in Midtown.

  3. Hi neighbors! My family will be visiting from out of state and there will be approx 10 of us, including 5 kids under 11, attempting to visit and view the lights in Dyker Heights next week. Despite living in the city almost ten years, I’ve never been to Dyker Heights nor seen the lights. Does anyone have words of advice for the adventure?

  4. While most Christmastime tourists to New York City flock to Rockefeller Center, locals know that the city's biggest holiday light show is actually in the outer-Brooklyn neighborhood of Dyker Heights.

  5. Nestled in the southwest corner of Brooklyn, Dyker Heights is an underrated neighborhood with a reputation that largely stems from its iconic holiday light displays. But there’s much more to this picturesque enclave than Christmas lights.

  7. Highly recommend. Greater NYC has several neighborhoods that get festive at the holidays, but none more so than Dyker Heights. It's a lovely destination at the south end of Brooklyn, just above Coney Island, and promises ample elaborate displays.
