It's absolutely still worth playing imo, even if only for the campaigns. Much of the game has held up surprisingly well over the years, despite lacking some modern-day features like ledge grabbing.
Plenty of people play on all 4 consoles it exists on. XB1+ and PS4+ will probably have more active players, since PS3 and X360 didn't get Rise of Iron. If you've never fully played Destiny 1, I say it's worth it.
