- DMX. The world was shocked in April 2021 when one of the most successful rappers of the late 1990s and early 2000s died: the Ruff Ryder himself, DMX. The rapper had fallen into a coma following a heart attack caused by cocaine use, before dying of multiple organ failure, according to Vulture.
- Gift of Gab. One half of Blackalicious died in June 2021, as Pitchfork reported: Bay Area icon Gift of Gab. The rapper, who was born Timothy Parker, was known for tongue-twisting songs like "Alphabet Aerobics."
- Black Rob. New York rapper Black Rob was 52 when he died in April 2021, as AP News reported. He had a history of health problems and had been sent to an Atlanta hospital following a serious cardiac arrest, where fellow rapper and Bad Boy Records collaborator Mark Curry held his hand throughout his last moments.
- Chucky Trill. In March 2021, Chucky Trill died after being fatally injured in a shocking highway shooting, per NME. The up-and-coming Houston rapper had burst into the spotlight when he released "Streets Don't Love a Soul" in 2018, which led to him releasing his own album and working with other artists like Lil KeKe, Propain, and Trapboy Freddy.
- Baby CEO. Born Jonathan Brown, Baby CEO was an artist from Memphis who found fame at 13 for controversial songs focused on guns and money. He gained greater attention under the tutelage of Chicago drill rapper Fredo Santana, who died of cardiovascular disease at age 27 in 2018 (via The Chicago Tribune).
- 18veno. 18veno, a 19-year-old rapper from South Carolina, had just started to see success thanks to his 2020 R4z EP and debut project Pablo, when he was shot and killed on Jan.
- Prince Markie Dee. Prince Markie Dee of The Fat Boys died in February of unknown causes. He was 52. Group manager, Louis Gregory, confirmed the news on Twitter, writing (via Rolling Stone): “Forever in my Heart.

- DMX. Earl Simmons, better known by his stage name DMX, was a rapper from the United States. He started rapping in the early nineties, and his first album, It's Dark and Hell Is Hot, was released in 1998 to critical acclaim and economic success, selling 251,000 copies in its first week.
- Biz Markie. Marcel Theo Hall, known professionally as Biz Markie, was an American rapper, DJ, and record producer. Markie was best known for his 1989 single "Just a Friend", which became a top 40 hit in several countries.
- Cucky Trill. Corey Detiege, better known as Chucky Trill, was a rising American rapper. He was the son of rapper D of Trinity Garden Cartel. His most famous song is "Streets Don't Love A Soul".
- Prince Markie Dee. Mark Anthony Morales, better known by his stage name Prince Markie Dee, is another rapper who has recently passed away. He was a founding member of the Fat Boys, a groundbreaking rap group that rose to prominence in the 1980s.
At 54, Michael K Williams was found deceased at his Brooklyn apartment on September 6th, 2021. His cause of death was an accidental overdose of cocaine and heroin mixed with fentanyl.
