It's truly a masterpiece in horror, and does it in a way which so few horror shows manage to do. It makes the most horrifying part of the plot entirely unstated and up to the viewer to put together. Most horror feels the need to rub your face in it, Shinsekai Yori hides the horrible truth away and hopes you won't find it, like the all the various characters in the show end up doing.
