This page is part of IGN's Stardew Valley Wiki guide and details everything you need to know to change your character's name, including how to name your character, how to find and unlock the Wizard's Tower and the tower's basement, as well as how to increase your relationship with the Wizard.
Every time you start a new game file in Stardew Valley, you have the chance to decide your character's appearance, your favorite thing, your farm's name, and, of course, your character's name.
If you want to change these settings later, you have to go to the Wizard's basement at the Wizard's Tower and interact with the Shrine of Illusions. This interaction will cost you 500g, and you'll be able to change:
•Your character's name
•Your character's pet appearance
•Your character's gender
•Your character's appearance
This is the tower where the Wizard M. Rasmodius lives, you can find it at the western edge of Cindersap Forest, and it'll be open from 6 am to 11 pm unless there is an event happening somewhere in the village.
Before being able to enter the Wizard's Tower, you have to unlock it first, and you do this by reading the golden scroll in the Crafts Room at the Community Center.
To unlock the basement and change your name, you'll have to befriend the Wizard and reach a 4 heart relationship with him. Each heart represents 250 friendship points. You can check how many hearts you have with someone by viewing the social tab on the game menu.
Alternatively, you can enter the basement room from the Witch's Hut using a teleportation rune that activates after completing the quest "Goblin Problem."
To gain relationship points with the Wizard, you have to:
•Talk to him daily
•Gift him something they love, like, or is neutral about twice a week
•Give him a gift on his birthday (Winter 17)
•Complete the quests he gives you
•Talk to him during festivals
If you use the Shrine of Illusion to add any item spawn codes into your character's name, you'll randomly get one of these chat messages:
