Black Summer is an American horror drama television series created by Karl Schaefer and John Hyams. It is a spinoff of Z Nation. The first season, consisting of eight episodes, was released on Netflix on April 11, 2019.

Black Summer is Netflix's Apocalyptic Standalone Series based on Z Nation.
It is originally created by Karl Schaefer and John Hyams. It recounts events happening during the first days of the Z-Apocalypse.
Schaefer and Hyams directed Black Summer: Season One and Black Summer: Season Two.
The Asylum, Go2 Digital Media, Unreality Incorporated, and One Dog Day Productions established Season 1 and Season 2.
Production for Black Summer Season One had officially commenced by July 23, 2018 around Calgary, Alberta with filming partially taking place at Queen Elizabeth High School, Stampede Park, McMahon Stadium and under The Calgary Tower. The Asylum continued production in the smaller communities of Irricana, Beiseker and Cochrane before returning to Calgary in mid-to-late September.
On September 26 2018, it was reported that the double stunts had been hospitalized for three days due to injuries sustained while on set, with Jaime King also confirming that production for The First Season had wrapped. John Hyams directed the majority of the series' episodes. Abram Cox and Karl Schaefer will also serve as both directors on the Black Summer One. As the series takes place one year before Z Nation none of it's original cast is involved. Netflix has however hinted that we might see some cameos in the show’s future.
On November 20th, 2019, Netflix renewed Black Summer for a Second Season, consisting of Eight Episodes.
Shooting was set to begin through Early 2020, though it was delayed due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and rescheduled for 2021.
They have announced that production of Season 2 was underway following a months-long shutdown due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Netflix officially have been filiming the show for Season 2. Beginning in 2020 to 2021; Cox, Hyams, and Schaefer happily revealed that Rose, Julius, Lance, and Sun set to return as well.
Filming for the Second Season originally began in January- February 2020 but on March 18, 2020 production was postponed for two weeks.
The COVID-19 Pandemic took hold and the show was put on temporary hiatus. Filming once again commenced in High River, Alberta. On May 20th 2021, Netflix footaged the Official Trailer.
