Ten-year-old Edward lives in his family-run retirement home. There is a slightly unrealistic element in the lack of attention given to Edward’s bizarrely morbid hobby. Equally, his mother’s blissful ignorance of her husband’s interest in the young nursing assistant does strain credulity a bit too far. Despite this, the film remains laugh-out-loud comical and deeply tragic, often at the same time.

Apr 16, 2009 · What we have here is a film that could easily have fallen victim to a paint-by-numbers formula of "crotchety senior citizen befriending the cute but irascible young moppet". I'm not giving anything way by clueing you into this development in the plot. Anyone who doesn't see this coming has never seen a film before nor probably ever read anything.
