Quite, nor does it help that the three films McTiernan made between Hunt For Red October and The 13th Warrior were two flops (one of which has some defenders, the other which doesn't) and the mediocre third Die Hard film- not a strong recent track record overall.
13th Warrior is one of my favorite fantasy movies ever. I know casting a Spanish actor to play someone named Ahmad ibn Fadlan is sketchy, but dammit, I love that movie so much. Everyone in the cast was extraordinary in their roll, most especially Dennis Storhøi.
