The first season is an amazing retelling of the movie and continuation beyond its original scope, and you can tell starting in season 2 they mapped out the time travel all the way to the end. The pay offs are so worth it, and it's chronology is pretty close to perfect.
I agree with that. I think the real story doesn't get going until season 2 episode 3. S1-2.02 is mainly "The virus" with a mountain of foreshadowing to the red forest/primary storyline. But 2:03 is when it comes out of the shadows and reveals itself.
