The Scapegoat, one of the five du Maurier novels with a male narrator, was published in 1957 by Gollancz and was made into a film in 1959 starring Alec Guinness and Bette Davis.
May 15, 2020 · If Daphne du Maurier had written this twenty years earlier, around the time she was writing Rebecca, this would be a brilliant set-up for something gothic, something in the mould of a thriller. Well, The Scapegoat is not that.
The Scapegoat was made into a film in 1959 starring Alec Guinness and Bette Davis. Additionally there is a 2012 film with Matthew Rhys which is based on the novel. However this is not set in France but in the UK in 1952 just before the coronation.
