Feb 23, 2018 · “The Lodgers ” disappoints on a number of levels, many of which have more to do with the limitations of its creators’ imagination than the apparently minuscule budget. The performances are uniformly undistinguished, save for Vega, who does a lot with a few pregnant pauses, and over-the-shoulder glances.
In its final minutes, The Lodgers gives its viewers a passionless conclusion to a very underdeveloped mystery. This movie had SO much potential, and it's really tragic this genre of horror has had so little traffic in the past few decades.
Brian O'Malley's The Lodgers may not be flat-out scary, but it gets points for its Gothic atmosphere and for its patient, careful approach to a pretty good story.
