"The Happening" is too self-serious to be read as a straight b-movie while also not really being enertaining enough to work on that level in the first place. So no, this reads as one of those "turn off your brain" arguments meant to suggest that I'm somehow defective if I can't value in a certain level of stupidity.

That said, where are you from? The Happening did pretty good box office overseas, considerably more than it made domestically ($64.5 mil domestic vs. $98.9 mil overseas according to Box Office Mojo) so I guess the short answer to your question is foreigners. Also, there's a reason we keep seeing Shyamalan movies. They keep making money.
