I feel like it reveals the plot is solid, I think standing on it's own it's a good movie, and I wonder if my experience with 2020 Grudge is closer to a Japanese person's experience of the original Grudge.
The newest Grudge movie that came out in 2020 is the best movie of them all. It’s a “remake” of sorts, and it was very dark and actually fairly scary. The rest of the series is not scary at all in my opinion. I recommend the new version, but skipping the original and its sequels.
