Oren Moverman’s “The Dinner” is an incredibly frustrating movie, almost purposefully so. It is a film about people who say things like “We’re gonna talk tonight … put it all on the table,” and then never do.

- 'Gigli' At the time, fans were excited for real-life couple Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck to star in a movie together. But they certainly didn't want this highly expensive flop, in which one of the main problems appeared to be that the pair didn't have any chemistry.
- 'Howard the Duck' As explained by Zach Kornfeld on a Watcher YouTube video about good-bad movies, this is why you shouldn't trust the auteur theory (i.e., that talented creative people only ever have good ideas).
Underneath that dumbness is a ugly anti-art, anti-intellectualism, faux populism. The thing about actual fine dining, at least in my extremely fleeting experience, is that the food is really, really, good and satisfying. Cooking like that is a high art.
Throughout the dinner, tensions build up among the group intercut with flashbacks that view the dysfunctional family's past, and Stan's attempts to help Paul in his depression. The arguments grow tense as they clash on whether the boys should take the blame or simply cover up their wrongdoing.
