Oren Moverman’s “The Dinner” is an incredibly frustrating movie, almost purposefully so. It is a film about people who say things like “We’re gonna talk tonight … put it all on the table,” and then never do.
The Dinner is a 2017 American drama film directed and written by Oren Moverman, and based on the Dutch novel of the same name by Herman Koch. It is the third film adaptation of the novel, following the 2013 original Dutch version Het Diner by Menno Meyjes and the 2014 Italian film I nostri ragazzi by Ivano De Matteo.
It reminded me of the movie “Waiting” in the sense that it’s an entertaining movie for anyone, but feels like it was specifically made for anyone who’s worked in a restaurant (specifically fine dining for The Menu)

Dinner and a movie is a really bad first date idea. But for just a date night, it’s a solid choice IMO. However, I always do the movie and then dinner. Because you can talk about the movie over dinner. But, to each their own.
