Oren Moverman ’s “The Dinner” is an incredibly frustrating movie, almost purposefully so. It is a film about people who say things like “We’re gonna talk tonight … put it all on the table,” and then never do. They’re constantly avoiding not just the truth but basic human interaction.

- Everyone Loves Movies. Okay, not everyone loves movies but the large majority of people do. That means that if you select going to see a movie for the first date, the chances are it’s going to fall on the list of things your date likes to do.
- It Sets a Nice Time on the Date. People are often worried about how long a first date should last. When it comes to a movie, though, that time is basically agreed upon beforehand.
- You Don’t Have to Talk As Much. Okay, so we’re putting this a pro because a lot of people use this as the reason to choose a movie as a first date. However, it comes with a big disclaimer.
- Affordability. While movies aren’t as cheap as they used to be, they are still fairly cost effective in the grand scheme of things. One of the nice perks is that even if your date “orders the most expensive thing on the snack menu”, it’s not going to be that expensive.
Dinner and a movie is a really bad first date idea. But for just a date night, it’s a solid choice IMO. However, I always do the movie and then dinner. Because you can talk about the movie over dinner. But, to each their own.
By the time you all are done with work and met up for the movie on a Friday night or whatever, it's dinner time. By the time you're out of a 2-3 hour movie experience, the restaurant may be closed, you or your date may be too tired to go eat. Your options for food are more limited at later hours.
