James Ponsoldt’s film based on Dave Eggers’ same-titled 2013 book has a lot of good ideas and a few engrossing sequences, but it never quite finds a groove, or even a mode, and it ends in an abrupt, unsatisfying way.

The Circle (2017) was one badly executed movie. The main point why I was taken aback was because the story had a serious potential along with some fine actors which could have made a good movie, but in the end one would be highly generous to call the movie even mediocre. SPOILERS AHEAD.
