There's more full animation being done today, at higher inbetween count, than what you find back then, with full 360 degree freedom of camera the likes of which not done anywhere back then, by anyone. What's suffered is nothing is finished to full theatrical quality anymore.

Its 9 anthological short films made by 8 different animation teams centered around robots and their interaction with humans. The animation though maybe a bit dated is very creative and still holds up. The OST was amazing too. Presence was my favorite one, it was lucid, shares the same themes about life and AI GitS and Blade Runner explores.
