I read on a Wikipedia that the old movie Metropolis will enters the US public domain in 2023 on the first of January. When that movie enters the public domain are you allowed to do whatever you want with it like publishing a fan fiction book of it, or make your own film adaptation of it, even though you can't claim ownership of the original.
