Oct 1, 2019 · Lock Up is well shot (with some good use of lighting and shadow effects) and well-acted by a nice range of chiefly male thespians that all lift the fairly predictable material up to near ‘classic’ standards. For example, it was great to see a young, slim-looking Tom Sizemore making the most of a good role as the prison’s ‘go to guy for getting stuff’.
Lock Up maybe a little too cliched and heavy-handed to mark itself as a classic of the prison drama sub-genre, but as a piece of 80's action drama, it has its pleasures.
There are good elements. "Lock up" is nicely directed by John Flynn ("Rolling thunder" , "Bestseller") .The score by Bill Conti (Rocky") is good. The movie looks great - the prison used here was the East Jersey State Prison in Rahway, New Jersey. The cast includes real inmates of Rahway State Prison.
