- You will see finer, more ambitious horror films this year for sure, but Haunt really hits a sweet spot for pure slasher fun. It lacks the cynicism that's plagued a lot of recent efforts in the sub-genre. There is some gore, but it's nothing remotely as stomach-churning as what you've seen in Roth's Hostel pictures or The Green Inferno.

For a modern haunted house slasher, it really does tick all the boxes. Creepy villains, a foreboding atmosphere, (some) characters who actually make the right decisions, excellent kills, genuine OMG moments... Haunt is surely one of the great modern slashers - certainly Halloweeny slashers.
One of the best Halloween-themed horror movies ever made that flies way under the radar. I love how deliberate it is; it really comes together in it’s editing and tempo. The pitchfork kill is incredible.
Haunt is an atmospheric and brutal romp and stomp splat film. It's not anything truly original but the pace and impact at which it runs and hits at will make it an instant favorite for anyone...
Haunt is a fairly simplistic movie, but the performances are mostly above average for a film of this sort and it's refreshing to see horror film characters do the right thing on multiple occasions. I can't say it's a tremendous, original take on the slasher genre, but it gets the job done and supplies a few jolts here and there.
