Impostor is a Roblox game developed by ArcadeRockstar. The game is advertised as heavily inspired Among Us, a 2018 Steam game that became exponentially popular in the summer of 2020.
Similarities to Among Us
Impostor has been derided by the community as a "copy" or "rip-off" of Among Us. Detractors often cite the extremely similar aesthetic and premise as going far beyond simply being "inspired" by the game, and how the game may have been strategically released not long after after Among Us' popularity increased dramatically, despite the fact that Among Us is free on mobile devices. Some believe that Impostor may be DMCA'd soon.
YouTuber Discussion
More fuel was added to the fire when a well known YouTuber, KonekoKittenWasTaken, covered the game in an opinionated rant about how it may have copied Among Us. Koneko provided information about how the game was incredibly similar to Among Us, leading to some controversy in the Roblox community. The Impostor Discord server got raided by individuals claiming to be Koneko's fans shortly after the video went live. Koneko received some backlash from this, despite prior discouragement and active denouncement of this kind of behavior.
