Obelix's catchphrase in French is "ils sont fous ces romains". The fact that, translated into Italian, the initials spell SPQR, seems to be just a lucky coincidence. I translated "ils sont fous ces romains" into Italian with Google Translate, and it comes out "questi romani sono pazzi".
