Ikiru is one of the most heartbreaking and wonderful films I have ever seen. Recommendation. I recently watched Ikiru as preparation for an essay about Akira Kurosawa. I was driven to tears many times over. By the end of the film, you feel so absolutely inspired and sad for Watanabe that it's almost too much to take.
