To perform the firmware upgrade, you need to put the radio into its programming mode. For the MD785, set the switch on the end of the programming cable to the “DL” position and turn on the radio. For a portable radio, hold the PTT and the orange button on top whilst turning the radio on. Once in the download mode, start the upgrade software.
Select a location, drill holes based on the shape of the mounting bracket, and then use the screws (4.8 mm x 20 mm) to secure the bracket. Connect the RF antenna, GPS antenna, and power cord to the radio. Slide the radio into the mounted bracket, and then secure it by using the locking knobs.

Unlock the battery latch, and then remove the battery cover. The battery cover is tightly fastened to ensure optimum waterproof performance. It is recommended to remove the battery cover with tools. Open the card slot covers. Install the SIM card and Micro SD card. Put the card slot covers back in place.
