A History of Our Township. In January 1798, Joseph Howland - a descendant of John Howland who came to America aboard the Mayflower in 1620 - bought a Northwest Territory tract of land from the Connecticut Land Company in the Western Reserve which became Howland of Trumbull County.

Operating Hours. Wednesday–Sunday • 10 a.m.–5 p.m. The Ohio History Center will close at 4 p.m. Saturday, October 19 & 26, and Saturday, December 7 & 14 to prepare for events. The Ohio History Center will be closed Monday, November 11; Thursday, November 28; and Monday–Wednesday, December 23-25 for holidays.
