A History of Our Township. In January 1798, Joseph Howland - a descendant of John Howland who came to America aboard the Mayflower in 1620 - bought a Northwest Territory tract of land from the Connecticut Land Company in the Western Reserve which became Howland of Trumbull County.
No agricultural community in Trumbull county is more fortunate in its location than Howland township. PIONEER SETTLEMENT. Excepting one family, the first settlers of Howland were Pennsylvanians.

Operating Hours. Wednesday–Sunday • 10 a.m.–5 p.m. The Ohio History Center will close at 4 p.m. Saturday, October 19 & 26, and Saturday, December 7 & 14 to prepare for events. The Ohio History Center will be closed Monday, November 11; Thursday, November 28; and Monday–Wednesday, December 23-25 for holidays.
