The walking distances are not too long and there are also plenty of colectivos (a shared cab system that allows you to hop on and off anywhere throughout its fixed route) for anyone who doesn’t want to walk.
However, I think it’s worth spending a couple of nights in the city — two or three days would be perfect. This way you’ll be able to enjoy the main tourist attractions at a less-hurried pace, and squeeze in a day trip to Viña del Mar or another local beach.
