You can play Fortnite with friends on any platform! Follow these steps to add friends. Important: If you are playing on any other platform other than PC or Mac, you'll need to enable cross-play to play with friends on other platforms.
- Playing Fortnite on different platforms? No worries. If your friends are playing Fortnite, you can easily play with them, regardless of platform. Fortnite offers crossplay so that you can get in the same party as your friends — whether they’re playing on console, PC, Mac, or mobile.
- Stick together with your Epic friends. You can better know when your friends are playing Fortnite if you add them to your Epic friends list. “Epic Friends” are your friends across the entire Epic Games ecosystem, including games by Epic and the Epic Games Launcher.
- Squad up with ease. When your Epic or console friends are playing Fortnite, you can invite them to your party simply by going to the in-game friends list, clicking their name, and selecting “Invite to Party.”

Understanding your Fortnite cross platform options can be a bit daunting at first, but our guide details how setting up matches with your friends across PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, Mac, and Mobile is actually a pretty easy task.
Before starting it's important to know if it's even possible to play with a friend on a different platform. Thankfully, most systems are compatible with each other save for Sony who throws a bit of a wrench in the entire system. Here's a table showing who can play with each other:
In short, if you're playing on PlayStation 4, you won't be able to play with friends on Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Everyone else can freely play!
The most important part of getting crossplay going is to have your friends registered and accepted in your Epic friends list. If you're friends on your PSN account or on Xbox Live, that won't be enough. You can search and add friends using their Epic username from any platform.
Once everyone is friends on Epic's account system, you should be able to join the lobby of your friend provided you're playing on the allowed platforms. Once you boot up the game and enter a standard lobby, open the friends tab on the top right corner of the menu and search for your friends. You can either invite them over to your lobby or join a friend's lobby. Once there, everyone has to hit "Ready" to begin playing. You'll get a notification if you receive an invite from a friend.
While it's not clear, the host of the lobby will apparently determine what kind of sever you play on. If your host is playing on Xbox One and you join the lobby while you're on PC, you'll be playing against other Xbox One players. Take note that you cannot fill a squad with random players if you're playing cross platform.
An icon next to your friend's username will indicate whether they are playing on console, PC/Mac, or mobile. This only applies if your friend is on a different platform.
