    • How to farm packed ice in Minecraft - Sportskeeda
      • Create a hole or enclosure where water can be placed. Players can begin with a small infinite water source or expand to a hole approximately 12x12 blocks and even larger if they'd like. If players have brought along ice blocks, they can fill the center of the farm with a diagonal line of ice from one corner to the opposite corner.

An ice farm consists of a large flat pan, open to the sky in an icy biome, which contains an infinite water source. Two diagonally adjacent walls will have outgrowths protecting strategic water blocks from freezing, causing a fully mined-out farm to refill with fresh water source blocks. Using lightsources to protect these blocks is not recommended...

To harvest, stand in the ice pan, and mine ice blocks with a Silk Touch tool, taking care to not mine the dirt. The covered water source blocks will then spread to refill the farm, and you simply wade around to collect the harvested ice. Boots enchanted with Depth Striderare useful for moving through the water faster.

Ice could theoretically be generated in the same way as cobblestone using two water source blocks, even to the extent that it could be piston-driven and used to build self-repairing structures. However, ice freezes slowly enough that an absurdly long clock cycle or a BUD (Block Update Detector), such as an observer, would be needed. Either way, it ...

  6. There are no 1.18 (or even 1.17) auto ice farms on YouTube and the only thing I can find is older AFK/clicker farms or bedrock versions… anybody care to make one or point me to a good auto ice farm that would work in 1.18 Java? Need 1000s of ice for ice highways. Archived post.

  7. The ice farm I created in 1.17 (pictured) has stopped working in 1.18. I imagine it has to do with a change in freezing altitude for water source blocks (The ice blocks in the picture were present at the update; however, don't melt). It is in the windswept hills biome at y=100.
