- Steve Brookstein (2004) Both Brookstein’s single and album went to number one, but in 2005 he was dropped from his record label Sony BMG and later went on to criticise The X Factor and Simon Cowell.
- Shayne Ward (2005) Shortly after his win, Ward achieved his first Christmas number one single with That’s My Goal in 2005. The song remained at the top spot for four consecutive weeks.
- Leona Lewis (2006) Lewis’ winner’s single – a cover of Kelly Clarkson’s A Moment Like This – broke a world record and became the second best selling single of 2006 despite being released just weeks before the end of the year.
- Leon Jackson (2007) Jackson’s version of Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey’s hit When You Believe became the fastest selling single of 2007. However, over a year later, the Scottish native was dropped by Sony BMG after his album Right Now sold just 130,000 copies.

- 2017 winner: Rak-Su. The Watford-based boyband mentored by judge Simon Cowell beat Grace Davies in last year’s final. After winning, the four boys – Ashley Fongho, Jamaal Shurland, Mustafa Rahimtulla and Myles Stephenson – released original song Dimelo, which hit number two in the UK charts.
- 2016 winner: Matt Terry. After beating Saara Aalto and 5 After Midnight in the final, Terry released debut single When Christmas Comes Around, which peaked at number three in the charts.
