Each rifle company comprised three platoons, each platoon having three sections. Corps, Regiments and Units. The command structure is hierarchical with divisions and brigades responsible for administering groupings of smaller units. Major Units are regiment or battalion-sized with minor units being smaller, either company sized sub-units or platoons.
A company was subdivided into four platoons. These would be numbered 1 to 4 in A Company, 5 to 8 in B Company and so on. Each platoon would then finally subdivide into the smallest unit, the Section, containing twelve men led by a Non-commissioned Officer.
