Nowadays, there are enough cabins in the right places that it’s possible to sleep indoors every night. The scenery is rugged and beautiful, with rocky, exposed ridges that offer commanding views on both sides.
Of Taiwan’s 286 tallest peaks, 274 are “three-thousander mountains.” These are mountains with an elevation between 3,000 and 4,000 meters (9,842 and 13,123 feet). This is particularly impressive when you consider Taiwan’s size relative to other islands nearby.

Jul 23, 2024 · Generally speaking, if you plan to complete all of Taiwan's 100 Peaks, the least number of hikes to do is 25. You will hike some peaks twice. If you are an ultra-runner, it's a different story and beyond the scope of this post.

It is estimated that there are in fact over 260 mountain peaks that reach over 3,000 meters in Taiwan. While there has been some criticism in the past over the inclusion of some peaks and the exclusion of others, there is no doubt that this list features some of the best hiking and mountaineering in Asia.
