According to one survey, 88 percent of Americans say they had a teacher who had a significant, positive impact on the course of their lives; and 87 percent say they wish they had told their best teachers how much they appreciated their work.
- Hugh Jackman. Before people around the world knew him as Wolverine, Hugh Jackman worked as a teaching assistant in a British boarding school. He also taught PE class, where he bonded with a student he later recognized on the red carpet as a reporter.
- Stephen King. Some former students may remember having Stephen King as their English teacher. After graduating college with an English degree, he taught at an academy in Maine while submitting short stories for publication.
- Jon Hamm. Jon Hamm is another English degree grad, but he did something different with his education. He returned to his former high school to teach drama.
- Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton is one of the most accomplished people in the world, which includes a background in teaching. After graduating from Yale law school, she became a law professor at the University of Arkansas.

- Neil Postman. Neil Postman was an American cultural critic who wrote extensively about the impact of technology on education. He believed that technology could be a powerful learning tool but should be used thoughtfully and in moderation.
- Lev Vygotsky. Lev Vygotsky was a Soviet psychologist who developed the concept of the zone of proximal development. He believed that learning occurs when students are challenged just beyond their current level of understanding and that teachers should work on scaffolding their learning.
- Bill Nye. Bill Nye is an American science educator who became famous in the 1990s with his television show, Bill Nye the Science Guy. His approach to teaching science emphasized fun, humor, and hands-on experimentation.
- Howard Gardner. Howard Gardner is an American psychologist who developed the theory of multiple intelligences. He believed that intelligence is not a single trait but a combination of different types of intelligence, such as linguistic, musical, and logical-mathematical.
