The band consisted of three brothers Charlie, Ronnie, and Robert Wilson; and it was named after streets (Greenwood, Archer, and Pine) in the historic Greenwood neighborhood in the brothers’ hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The Gap Band was an American funk band primarily consisting of brothers Ronnie (b. 1948, d. 2021), Charlie (b. 1953) and Robert Wilson (b. 1956, d. 2010). The group first formed as the Greenwood, Archer and Pine Street Band in 1967 in their hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
