Oct 22, 2017 · Toadstool Geologic Park is open 24 hours per day, all year long. If you’d like to spend the night in the area, you are in luck. You won’t find any hotels close by, but there is a campsite (that costs only $5 per night!) located within the park’s boundaries.
Turn northwest on Toadstool Road, and go about 10 miles. Turn left at the sign to Toadstool Park and go about 1½ miles. Ownership and Management: U.S. Forest Service, Oglala National Grassland, Pine Ridge Ranger District (308) 432-0300. Closest Town: Crawford, Nebraska.
Toadstool was very high on my list of sights to see on this trip and skipping it was a difficult decision to reach. But 90-120 minutes to drive 15 miles only to turn around and repeat it the next day wasn't going to happen.

Toadstool Geologic Park is a gem in the Oglala National Grasslands, well worth a 16-mile drive over dirt roads. Drive north from Crawford, NE on Route 2, and then follow signs to the park. A one-mile loop trail starts at the parking lot with numbered stops explaining the rock formations, faults, fossils, and trackways.
